NaNoWriMo 2017: Week two and I’m still not panicking

The last time I did NaNoWriMo I was panicking at this point (and enjoying myself hugely). We’re halfway through the month, take a day, and I’m 30K words in. I’m ahead: if I continue like this, I’ll reach 50K on November 24th. I still feel chill.

Before I started, I wrote an outline. I’ve now reached a point where I need to review it make sure I have enough detail to continue for the next couple of weeks. And that’s fine. I have time: I’m ahead.

Unlike my previous attempts, at the end of this month I believe I will have something I can work with relatively easily. Not a wildly cobbled together monster nor a readable story but a plot-complete piece of writing with some holes in it. I’ll be well on my way towards a first draft and should have a plan of how to get there.

December will be full of research. I’m looking forward to it.
